Bear Brothers, Inc. traces its origin back to 1932 with the formation of Bear Lumber Company in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1946 the six sons of T. L. Bear, Sr. founded Bear Brothers, Inc. The two companies operated as separate entities until 1964 when Bear Brothers, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bear Lumber Company, Inc. In 1986 first cousins Joe F. Bear and Clyde S. Bear became the owners of the corporation. Joe Bear retired in 2008. Clyde Bear is currently the sole owner of Bear Lumber Company and its subsidiary, Bear Brothers, Inc.

For well over 70 years Bear Brothers, Inc. has been involved in commercial, industrial, institutional and various other classes of general building construction in central and south Alabama. By limiting its area of operations, management has been able to maintain tight cost controls, accurate construction schedules and a high quality of workmanship on its projects while keeping wasteful litigation and disputes at an absolute minimum. Beginning in 1969, Jack C. Bear then president of Bear Brothers, Inc. determined that our construction company should concentrate its efforts on the bidding, negotiating and construction of the larger building projects in central and south Alabama. This strategy has proven to be very beneficial to the companys overall growth and profitability. Repeatedly Bear Brothers, Inc. has proven to have the necessary experience, personnel and financial strength to construct even the most complicated and difficult projects on time and within budget.

Over the last four decades Bear Brothers, Inc. has successfully completed a wide range of substantial construction projects in the Alabama construction market. The following paragraphs briefly describe some of our major accomplishments:

From 1970 to 1975 Bear Brothers, Inc. built the first five buildings for Auburn University Montgomery and later in the decade constructed two additional classroom buildings. In 1972 the company negotiated its first contract with Rheem Manufacturing Company for a 240,000 SF manufacturing facility in Montgomery. Over the next fifteen year period we completed several major additions which nearly doubled the size of the original plant. In 1988 and 1989 we completed several large production warehouses at the G.E. Lexan plant in Burkeville, Alabama.

In 1975 the company began construction on the 12 story Professional Office Building at Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery. This project resulted in a long term relationship which in 1984 culminated in the award of a $15.0 million dollar contract for the seven story north wing addition to the hospital. In the 1970's Bear Brothers also constructed a six-story addition to the Goode Medical Office building at Jackson Hospital and Clinic as well as the six-story north addition to the hospital. Bear Brothers was also the general contractor on the Medical Office Building and Ambulatory Care Facility that Baptist Medical Center constructed in 1998 in Prattville, Alabama.

For many years military construction has comprised a significant percentage of our company's annual construction volume. In the last twenty years Bear Brothers has constructed five 160 student dormitories at Maxwell Air Force Base and three smaller dormitories at Gunter AFB Annex. In 2004 we constructed an Aircraft Maintenance Hangar and Fuel Cell Hangar at Maxwell AFB. In 2006 we built the Integrated Operational Support Facility, a complex computer network facility for the Air Force at Gunter AFB Annex. We constructed a complete enlisted men's barracks complex in Fort Rucker in 1983-1984. Through the years we have also been the general contractor on several major projects for the Alabama Air National Guard in the Montgomery area.

During our lengthy history we have constructed facilities for every college, university, and junior college in the city of Montgomery. We have also built a substantial percentage of the public schools in the Montgomery area. Some of our more notable educational projects include the Rosa L. Parks Library and Museum at Troy University Montgomery completed in 2001, the Harris School of Business at Faulkner University completed in 1999 and the domed basketball arena and classroom building at Alabama State University, known as the Acadome, completed in 1992. On the local public school level, we constructed additions to Dalraida, Head and Morningview elementary schools in Montgomery in year 2000 and the new Thelma Smiley Morris Elementary School in 1999.

In recent years we have been privileged to have built some of the most significant and prominent religious facilities in the Montgomery area. Bear Brothers, Inc. completed the New Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall for First Baptist Church in Montgomery in 2004. We also constructed the new four story children's Educational Building for First Baptist in 2010. Two years earlier we constructed the New Sanctuary and classroom additions for St. James United Methodist Church in Pike Road, Alabama. Ten years earlier we built the First Phase Facility for this growing church. In 2007 we constructed a cathedral style sanctuary for St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan, Alabama.

Some of our major institutional projects include the Renovation and Additions to the Public Safety Building in the State Capital Complex which was completed in 2008. Earlier in 2007 we completed the highly visible Urban Riverwalk Phase III on the banks of the Alabama River in Montgomery. In 2005 we constructed the new Public Safety Communications Center for the City of Montgomery. We also, have substantial experience in the construction of detention facilities, multi-family housing, retail shopping centers and even custom built residential housing.

From this brief history of our company, we hope that you will conclude that Bear Brothers, Inc. is a highly qualified general contractor who can be trusted to build nearly any type of construction project.
